Extra virgin olive oil, the key ingredient for a healthy diet
You, who insists on leading a healthy lifestyle, who does exercise, who tries to eat well, who even drinks those organic, eco or whatever you want to call them smoothies (and if they contain some sort of superfood, then you’re in seventh heaven). You, yes, you: have you ever stopped to think that you have at hand an essential ingredient for a healthy diet, called extra virgin olive oil? Because it’s difficult to find a product like this one, so good for your palate (it’s perfect to dunk your bread!) and for your health.
There are tons of scientific studies that demonstrate its benefits for the body. A daily spoonful of olive oil combats inflammatory processes that can affect blood vessels, which helps to reduce the risk of developing circulatory diseases such as arteriosclerosis. Seeing as it contains oleic acid (monounsaturated fatty acid), it helps reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol and increases HDL (good). It protects the stomach and its mucosa, so it makes it easier for ulcers to heal and reduce their size. It also prevents constipation. In addition, a recent study by the University of Barcelona has discovered that it enhances the qualities of other foods. According to this study, cooking your sauté of vegetables with extra virgin olive oil favours the release of the bioactive compounds they contain, since they transfer to the oil during cooking. This facilitates the absorption and bioactivity of said compounds (about 40 different phenolic compounds and carotenoids, which reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and insulin sensitivity). So now you know: you can incorporate it into your healthy diet in any dish, from a salad to a gazpacho, desserts, cheeses… Because it’s the most versatile healthy food in the world. Make the most of it!
